What Is Insomnia

Most people think insomnia means simply not falling asleep or being able to stay asleep. It is more complex than that, so here are five scenarios I typically see in my practice from patients that suffer of insomnia:

I go to bed and it takes more then 20 minutes to fall asleep. My eyes feel tired, the anxiety grows but I just can’t fall asleep.
I wake a couple of hours after I fall asleep. I feel wide-awake, wired, and exhausted. Anxiety grows eventually, wondering how I will be able to face tomorrow.
I wake up at about 3am at least a few times a week. By the time I get to sleep again the alarm goes off and I feel as if I need a few more hours of sleep to feel ready for the day.
