In-person Sleep Support

Relief for trouble falling asleep and staying sleep

I invite you for an initial session if you are struggling with some of the following:

  • Trouble falling asleep, anxiety, humming sensation, feeling wired but tired, it takes up to a couple of hours to fall asleep

  • Can’t fall asleep and then go into light sleep all night long

  • Wake up around 1 or 2 am having a hard time going back to sleep for a couple of hours

  • Waking up too early, as early at 4 or even 3am

  • Waking up too early and experiencing light sleep

  • Waking up feeling tired, whether you think you slept enough or not

  • Other symptoms such as digestive issues, hormonal imbalances and more

There are many ways to work on your sleep. Here are some reasons why consider acupuncture and functional medicine:

  • If sleep medication is not your desired choice

  • If you are on a sleep medication and it’s not working well for you or you’d like to sleep well without taking medications

  • If you are interested to look at the whole body, find the root cause, and heal your sleep naturally

How can acupuncture and functional medicine help you heal sleep troubles

Acupuncture treatments are a safe non-invasive treatment useful for insomnia. Needles are inserted to enhance your own capability to heal.

  • Acupuncture can relax your nervous system by increasing calming neurotransmitters (i.e serotonin, GABA) and help with anxiety.

  • It can release endorphins and make you feel more relaxed and it can help with supporting melatonin production.

  • Acupuncture points can also stimulate digestion and absorption of nutrients, and support the brain-connection and sleep.

Functional medicine assessment, testing and treatment can greatly support your sleep. It works well with the acupuncture treatments.

  • Primary testing starts with tests that look at your nervous system (i.e. saliva cortisol testing, urine neurotransmitter testing)

  • The results of these tests (along with reviewing past test results) guides us in finding the best strategies for your sleep, such as lifestyle changes, herbs and supplements.

  • The second round of testing will look at the root cause of your sleep issues, whether it is digestive, hormonal or toxins.

What to Expect

We talk on the phone or meet by video for a free consult to see how I can help and to answer any questions you may have

We schedule a 90 minutes initial session to assess your sleep through Chinese medicine and functional medicine lenses, receive a relaxing acupuncture sessions and make a treatment plan (which includes testing recommendations).

Most of my patients do a series of 12 weekly acupuncture sessions to gradually improve sleep. We see results usually after 3 to 5 sessions.

Besides blood work laboratory testing, you will receive laboratory kits for more testing (you collect the samples from the comfort of your home).

The functional medicine testing results usually come back for review from 1 week to 3 weeks, which helps decide on targeted herbs and supplements.

Some of the laboratory testing commonly used in my practice:

  • Cortisol and adrenal testing

  • Neurotransmitter testing

  • Saliva and urine hormone testing

  • Stool testing

  • Organic Acid Test (OAT)

  • Assessing iron and ferritin levels

  • Pyrrole testing

  • Food sensitivities

  • Thyroid panels

  • Heavy metals testing

  • Mold testing
